One of my favorite, British artist Roger Hiorn converted an apartment slated for demolition in London into a place encrusted with copper sulphate crystal. He achieved this by flooding the spaces with hot saturated copper sulphate solution that form crystals when cooled. Although this piece was done 2 years ago and the building demolished shortly after the exhibition, I find myself coming back to these powerful images over and over again. What an incredible architectural act of sublime beauty. Truly epic.
A most avant garde Spiritual Center
from left: A betel nut store (called “The Strange of the Strange” Brothers’ professional Betel Nuts) for mind enhancement, a tiny hair/nail/ear-cleaning salon for image transformation and a temple for spiritual transformation- all condensed into one multiplex with a tree growing out of the middle. Eat your heart out foreign architects, you will never ever get this program combo from your client’s brief!
Illegal balcony extensions added onto a building. These are so remarkably uniform and systematic although they were done by different tenants at different times; or did the developer of the building offer them as an extra service? Or the tenants got together and negotiated a great group rate on illegal extensions?
